WHAT A WEEK!

Welcome to our very first Week Ahead; and what a week it has been. I am so proud to be writing this newsletter as British Headmaster of Wellington College Bilingual Shanghai. Moving to Shanghai in March of this year, I was delighted to be involved in the development of an early years’ setting that is intricately designed to meet the needs of young learners. To be able to influence the learning spaces, so that they reflect the areas of development to be promoted has been a privilege. Over the last three months, a dynamic team have worked tirelessly to lay the foundations of what culminated in the official signing of the New Bund Wellington College Bilingual Education Framework Agreement. With Mr. Stephen Crouch (Director of Finance and Operations) representing the Wellington College UK, we were enormously proud to announce the arrival of the seventh Wellington College. This event was attended by various members of the Shanghai media and gave a platform from which we were able to tell the Shanghai community about our amazing early years’ setting and share our vision for the future. For me as an educator, it was wonderful to see the reaction of the journalists as I talked them through how we will not teach young children, but we will encourage them to be active learners; to investigate, discover and explore in an inspiring and stimulating environment. When I gave examples of how we guide learning, the nods of agreement and smiles on the faces of the people facing me told me that our vision will be welcomed wholeheartedly amongst the Shanghai community. After the ceremony, we launched our open days and are extremely pleased to see that we are filling up fast.
