What a wonderful sight to behold, watching children arriving at nursery dressed in their comfiest nightwear and carrying their favourite teddy bear. Days such as these serve as a reminder that whilst the children are young (and extremely sweet in the pjs!), they are keen and enthusiastic to get involved and participate.

The adults in the nursery, both academic and non-academic needed little persuasion to get involved anything for a day of fun. To have fun is a pillar of our mission at the nursery, and teddy bear day didnt disappoint.   Learn about Teddy Bear Day The teddy bear is one of the most popular toys for children, and holds a special place in many adults’ hearts, too. This lovable stuffed animal has a day all of its own, Teddy Bear Day. It gives a chance for people to get teddy out of the cupboard and make him the centre of attention.
It’s an ideal time to get together with others for a teddy bear’s favourite activity, having a picnic, as immortalised in the classic song, ‘Teddy Bear’s Picnic.’ This was written in 1907, shortly after teddy bears were first manufactured in Europe.

Dressing up presents an opportunity to celebrate inclusion; all children wear certain types of clothing for bed and most children have a teddy, soft toy or comfort blanket that they use as a friend when it comes to settling down for the night. As no two children wore the same attire, and the variety of teddy bear was broad, dressing up also presents an opportunity to celebrate diversity.

Activities around teddy bears, stories about teddy bears, facts about teddy bears and real bears, songs about bears supported the children’s learning for the day. Consideration of the patterns and colours of the children’s nightwear sparked mathematical challenges and provided chances to be creative. Language opportunities were rich as the children were surrounded by sensory experiences. Most of all it was fun, just as all teddy bear days should be ?
