03 May 2016

On Monday 25th April, Wellington College Bilingual Shanghai had the pleasure of welcoming Peter Mallinson, Governor of Wellington College and Old Wellingtonian, incoming Vice President and Chairman of Board of Governors, Wellington College for his inaugural visit to the College.

Peter had a tour led by Vanessa Szucs-Hussain, Master of Wellington College Bilingual Shanghai. During the tour, Peter visited various classrooms around the nursery and met wonderful EY1 and EY2 pupils.

Peter Mallinson was notably impressed by the breadth of resources and quality of technology available to the Wellington pupils in this outstanding facility.

During his day visit, Peter met with the Wellington staff and pupils and discussed the strong partnership between Wellington College UK and Wellington College Bilingual Shanghai.

“I am absolutely delighted to congratulate the team here at Wellington College Bilingual Shanghai Early Years Centre on becoming the 7th member worldwide of the Wellington family, and the third of our Wellington College schools in China. Wellington College has a rich heritage, dating back some 160 years, of educating young boys and girls. We fully look forward to this early years’ centre delivering exactly the same quality of education that we believe in throughout the world. We are absolutely delighted to be here with our partners and with Vanessa and her team; we feel the children who come to the school will get the finest bilingual education in the world hopefully, certainly in China. Wellington believes strongly in its values, the Wellington values and we believe in developing every single child ―education within the frame of the Wellington aptitudes. So not just academically, but in all sorts of other ways to create a holistic education. We are absolutely committed to that and as governors of Wellington College in Berkshire, we are 100% supportive of our schools in China; myself and my colleagues will make every effort to come out here and visit the schools on a regular basis. We look forward to seeing the future of Wellington College Bilingual School in Shanghai which should open in 2018. We look forward to seeing it flourish and grow as one of the greatest academic establishments and educational establishments in China”.

During his tour, Peter Mallinson visited the model of New Bund area with New Bund leaders and gained a clear understanding of the master plan of New Bund as well as the future school of Wellington College Bilingual Shanghai. Afterwards, he went on to unveil a plaque in the library area at the early years centre. Peter said that he was delighted with his first visit to Wellington College Bilingual Shanghai and wished Wellingtonians in Shanghai good luck for their futures.
