Teachers Interview | Hiba Voice

13 Dec 2020

Hiba Academy Shanghai provides an excellent learning environment and its teachers are guided by forward-thinking teaching philosophies. The work environment is team oriented, and we learn a lot from each other. A pupil once said to me: “Angela, you are also my mum.” It was one of my most memorable moments in my time at Hiba Nursery.

I joined Hiba Academy Shanghai because I wanted to work with educators who share my passion and ambition. I enjoy teaching EY4 pupils because they constantly challenge me to be better at what I do. It fills me with a rewarding sense of achievement.    One of my favourite memories was when I was sick with a cold. My pupils built a makeshift bed out of chairs and bundled me up with blankets or anything else they could find. They encouraged me to drink fluids, made snacks for me and even helped to ease my pain with massages. It was a wonderful experience to be looked after by 24 pupils.

Hiba Academy Shanghai is an open, equal and multi-cultural workplace where every staff member feels welcome.

Hiba Nursery values the personal development and enrichment of its teachers. It provides an open platform for teachers to exchange ideas. It promotes a warm, caring and inclusive environment. Every year, pupils who have finished their nursery education  come back to visit and share with me what is going on in their lives.

Hiba Values align with my personal beliefs and educational philosophy. The nursery community is supportive and helpful, like a big family. Watching pupils learn, grow and mature is the most meaningful and rewarding part of teaching at Hiba Nursery.

Hiba Academy Shanghai is an inspiring and empowering workplace where I can be creative and fully demonstrate my sense of responsibility.
I am very proud to work with a team of highly motivated professionals at Hiba Academy Shanghai.

The most unforgettable and exciting moment for me was my first day as a teacher, when I got to meet my pupils.

I joined Hiba Academy Shanghai in 2015, when it had only just opened. I was excited by the opportunity to be part of a growing team of forward-thinking educators.

Achieving excellence in an early years’ setting takes time, dedication and hard work. However, the challenge is well worth it, and it is rewarding to be part of a team that strives for excellence.

The most memorable times for me at Hiba Nursery are always when I work with pupils and their families, watching them grow, progress and meet their goals. The look of a proud child is a powerful and unforgettable thing.

I joined the Hiba Nursery team because it values evidence-based education and the characteristics of effective learning.

I find teaching at Hiba to be challenging and deeply rewarding.

My most memorable moments at Hiba are the wellbeing work that we do with our pupils. It feels great to be part of a team that cares so much about its pupils.

Having worked in an international school in Shanghai for many years, I wanted to experience something new. Hiba Nursery's values are what attracted me. The approach to learning and the Nursery community are perfect for me, I feel like this is a place where I can develop my skills as a teacher.

I feel valued, supported and respected by my colleagues and pupils' families. It is a community that I am proud to be part of.

My fondest memory at Hiba is seeing the children return after the closure and quickly adapt to the ‘new normal.’ They showed amazing resilience, considering how long they were away from school and how young they are. Also, during the school closure I received many emails from the families in my class enquiring about my safety and that of my family. It is yet another example of how Hiba Nursery is a close-knit community that respects and cares for one other.

I came to Hiba because I wanted to work with an inspiring and dedicated group of early years teachers.

I have felt welcome since day one, and I am proud to come to work every day. Some of my fondest memories of Hiba are the events, like Chinese New Year and Christmas, where everyone comes together to celebrate. The look of pure joy and wonder on the children’s faces is truly unforgettable.

The main reason I enjoy working for Hiba is the nursery's ethos and the senior leadership team's approach to working with teachers. They promote a friendly, warm, positive, approachable and understanding attitude at all times. I feel valued and appreciated here, which is important to me.

I enjoy the collaborative and inspirational style of teaching here at Hiba Academy Shanghai. I feel I have a lot of freedom in my approach to teaching, and it challenges me to think outside the box. Also, my opinions are heard, and support is given when necessary.

My fondest memory is working with a pupil who had some particularly challenging needs. My co-teacher and I were constantly developing new strategies to help him make more progress. At the end of the year, we had a light bulb moment, and it has since made all the difference. After that, he was much more engaged in carpet time and in his interactions with the foreign teacher. It was a challenge, but it was well worth the effort.

I came to Hiba Academy Shanghai because I wanted to work in an environment where I could follow my passion and make a difference. At Hiba Nursery, we are supported and encouraged by leadership and fellow teachers to always achieve the best we can. Ambitious expectations allow us to work towards a better version of ourselves.

Every morning, I walk into the Nursery energised and excited. At the end of the day, I walk out feeling proud and satisfied.

My fondest Hiba memory is the pride I felt for one particular pupil. At the beginning of the year, she was very shy. She struggled with low self-esteem and encouraging her to speak was often a challenge. With patience and encouragement, we slowly began to see her gain confidence and talk with other children and teachers. Then one day, she volunteered to take part in "Show & Tell". She talked about her favourite book in front of the rest of the class, and she was extremely proud of herself. It was such a special moment.

love the values that Hiba Academy Shanghai upholds and instils in its staff and pupils. I love being part of a fantastic team who work together to create an amazing learning environment for the children.   Seeing all of the children progress and grow to be independent young individuals who are ready for their next adventure in education is the best part of working at Hiba.
